Safe and Sunny: Summer Safety Tips for Babies and Young Children

by Dianne Pepito on May 15 2023
Summer is a time of fun, sun, and relaxation. However, it is also a time when parents and caregivers need to be especially vigilant to ensure the safety of their babies and young children. From the heat and sun to the water and insects, there are many potential hazards that parents need to be aware of and take steps to protect their little ones. Here, we will explore some of the most important summer safety tips for babies and young children. Use Sun Protection One of the most significant risks during the summer is the sun. The sun's UV rays can be harmful, especially for young children with delicate skin. Essential sun protection measures for infants and young children include: Use sunscreen: Sunscreen is essential for protecting your child's skin from the sun's UV rays. Choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, and apply it liberally to your child's skin before going outside. Reapply every two hours, or more frequently if your child is swimming or sweating. Use a hat: Choose a hat with a wide brim to better protect your child's face, neck, and ears from the sun.  Use sunglasses: Opt for a pair with UV protection, and make sure they fit your child well. Stay Hydrated Young children are particularly susceptible to dehydration, so it's essential to make sure your child is getting enough fluids. Here are some tips to help ensure your child stays hydrated during the summer: Offer water regularly: Even if they don't ask for it. Encourage them to take frequent water breaks, especially when playing outside. Avoid sugary drinks: It can actually dehydrate your child. Instead, offer natural fruit juices or water. Be aware of signs of dehydration: Such as dry mouth, sunken eyes, or decreased urination. If you suspect your child is dehydrated, offer them water or an electrolyte solution. Ensure Safety in the Water Swimming and playing in the water can be a fun way to cool off during the summer, but it can also be dangerous. As young children are especially at risk for drowning, take these steps to ensure their safety around water.  Never leave your child unattended near water: It only takes a few seconds for a child to drown, so it's important to never leave them unattended near any body of water. This includes pools, bathtubs, and even buckets of water. Install safety gates: If you have a pool, install safety gates around it and make sure they are securely latched. You may also want to consider installing a pool alarm to alert you if someone enters the pool area. Enroll your child in swimming lessons: It can help your child learn water safety skills and build their confidence in the water. Just make sure the instructor is qualified and experienced in teaching young children. Teach your child water safety rules: This includes not running near pools, not diving into unfamiliar water, and always swimming with a buddy. Protect them from Insects Insects can be a nuisance during the summer, and some can pose health risks to babies and young children. Here are some ways to protect your child from insect bites and stings.  Dress your child appropriately: Best is light-colored, long-sleeved clothing to minimize exposed skin. For young children, tuck their pants into their socks or shoes. For babies, it’s best to put them in Sleep Nests to prevent insects from crawling up their legs.  Use insect repellent: Look for products that contain DEET or picaridin, which are effective against mosquitoes and ticks. Avoid applying repellent to their hands, as they may put their hands in their mouth or eyes. Avoid areas with stagnant water: Such as puddles, ponds, or uncovered pool as mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. Remove any standing water in your yard, such as in flower pots or bird baths, to reduce the mosquito population. Keep windows and doors screened: This prevents insects from entering your home.  Use mosquito nets: If you're spending time outdoors in an area with a high mosquito population, consider using a mosquito net to create a protective barrier around your child's stroller or play area. Make sure the net is securely fastened and doesn't pose a suffocation risk. Practice Heat Safety Young children are more susceptible to heat exhaustion and heatstroke as their bodies regulate temperature differently than adults.  Follow these tips to keep them safe from summer heat: Keep your home cool: Maintain a comfortable indoor temperature by using fans, air conditioning, or opening windows during cooler hours. Create a cool and shaded environment for your child to play and rest. Put your child in breathable, lightweight clothing: Opt for loose-fitting garments in light colors to reflect heat and to allow better air circulation. Made from lightweight cotton jersey, this Sleep Nest Lite is perfect to keep babies cool and protected during the night. Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day: It’s typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Schedule outdoor activities in the early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler. Never leave your child in a parked car, even for a short period: Cars can heat up quickly, reaching dangerous temperatures within minutes, putting your child at risk of heatstroke or suffocation. Recognize signs of heat-related illnesses: Symptoms include excessive sweating, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, flushed skin, rapid heartbeat, or headache. If your child displays these symptoms, move them to a cool place, offer fluids, and seek medical attention if the symptoms worsen or persist. Summer is a time of joy and exploration for babies and young children. By taking proactive measures to ensure their safety, we can create lasting memories without compromising their well-being. Remember, vigilance, sun protection, hydration, water safety, and insect protection are the pillars of a safe and enjoyable summer for your little ones. Let this guide serve as a reminder to prioritize their well-being and make the most of this beautiful season.

Bonding With Baby: Tips to Bring You Closer to Your Newborn

by Dianne Pepito on Feb 19 2023
The connection you make with your newborn is something that will last a lifetime, and there are lots of ways you can go about achieving this—all of which should be tailored to your baby's personality and needs. Finding out what works best for both of you can be a challenge, so let us guide you in the right direction by giving you tips on how best to bond with your newborn baby and create strong, lifelong ties.  Skin to Skin Contact Nothing compares to the feeling of a newborn's skin pressed against yours. Skin-to-skin contact, or kangaroo care, has many positive benefits for both you and your baby that go beyond the physical.  First up: temperature control. Babies cannot regulate their own body temperatures yet, so keeping them close can be essential during their first few weeks of life. Wrap your little one up snugly in a swaddle or a fuzzy blanket and place him or her on your bare chest, where your body heat will warm them up and help them feel secure at the same time. Allow your baby’s tiny limbs to rest against yours—the gentle pressure will be soothing for both of you.  Make Eye Contact It’s important to establish a bond beyond physical touch. Subtle forms of communication can have a huge impact on the connection you have with your baby. One such form is making eye contact. Simply look into their eyes while they look back at you and hold the gaze for several seconds. You'll find that your baby may even mimic your behavior, which is a clear indication that they recognize you as someone important in their life! Soothe Your Baby Through Movement How can you use movement to bond with your baby? Here are some tips: Take a walk - Head outdoors for some fresh air and enjoy the beauty of nature together.  Dance - Put on some music and sway back and forth with your baby in your arms, or place them in a wrap carrier so you can have your hands free while you dance around the house. Exercise -Try using light weights or modified yoga poses while cradling or holding your baby close to you. Baby massage - Run gentle pressure over their arms, legs and back—your tiny human will love it! Sing Lullabies and Rhymes Singing is a powerful way to bond with your baby—rhymes and lullabies can help you build and deepen a connection. Just like any other music, singing or spoken rhymes to your baby will help build their brain development.  The rhythm of a song or rhyme combined with the intonation of your voice is an incredibly powerful tool that can create lifelong connection and love. Story Time and Reading  There's something incredibly special about cuddling up with your newborn and reading stories, poems or nursery rhymes out loud to them. Not only does it help their language development, but it will also help create a strong bond between the two of you. Keep it simple and read stories or passages that are short and have lots of repetition—this will help your baby's mind remember words and phrases for future developmental milestones. Stories also create a sense of order and safety for little ones, so it can be comforting too! You'll also discover fun new ways to interact with each other too - games such as peek-a-boo that open up conversations while developing essential thinking skills at the same time. Socialize Through Outings Socializing your baby is an effective way to bond and build a strong relationship. Meeting your baby's relatives, friends, and other children is important because it helps give your baby a secure feeling. It also boosts their immune systems. Taking short trips with your baby can also be fun and provide good quality time together. When socializing with your newborn baby, it's important to keep in mind that overstimulation can cause them to get cranky or irritable, so make sure you take breaks in between activities and limit their time in one place to avoid this issue. Bundling them up using sleep nests and booties to make them feel comfy and secure. At the end of the day, it’s all about the bond between you and your newborn baby. It’s sure to be a roller coaster of emotions, but it’s all gonna be worth it. Establishing a loving relationship with your baby is the best achievement you can ever have in this lifetime.

6 Tips For New Parents On How To Easily Get Their Baby To Sleep

by Dianne Pepito on Feb 13 2023
It's true that being a new parent is an exciting and rewarding experience, but it can also be incredibly exhausting. One of the biggest problems that new parents face is how to get their baby to sleep at night. So, here are some useful tips new parents can do to easily get their baby to sleep. Dim the lights Dimming the lights helps baby feel more secure and more relaxed in their surroundings. Turn off bright lights like ceiling fans or lamps that are too bright for their eyesight. If possible, cover any windows with blackout curtains so that no light comes through at night.  Keeping them warm also helps. Designed in a comforting cocoon-like shape to help babies feel cozy and secure, this Sleep Nest Fleece will keep your little one comfy white they sleep. Keep the noise down  If you're new to parenting, keep noise down by closing doors and windows. You might find it helpful to put on some music during their nap or bed time. Avoid feeding your baby right before bedtime Feeding your baby right before bedtime can cause them to wake up a lot during the night. If you do feed your baby right before bedtime, make sure they are not hungry and that they are still full from their last feeding. You should also avoid feeding your baby if they are already full or have had enough food for the day. Limit screen time Both parents and children can be affected by the effects of TV, tablet, or smartphone use. Television can lead to poor quality sleep, excessive sleeping at night, a decrease in overall sleep duration, and an increase in daytime fatigue.  Let them cry it out This method is often the most effective, but it's also one of the hardest to do. The idea is that you let your baby cry for a few minutes, then go in and comfort them until they fall asleep on their own. Don't pick them up right away if they start crying. If you rush into their room when they start crying and try to put them down again right away, this could lead to more intense crying fit. After they’ve calm down, lift them up and wrap them up in a cozy blanket like this Furry Blankie to make them feel secured. Create a bedtime routine A good bedtime routine ensures that your baby's sleeping pattern is consistent and predictable, which makes it easier for them to fall asleep on their own. Being consistent is the key. Try your best to stick to your routine and schedule as changing things up now and then could cause anxiety or confusion for you and your baby.  With these tips, you’ll have more ideas to work with in terms of getting your baby to sleep better. Of course, this is not a "one size fits all" solution for all parents, babies or situations. Nonetheless, these suggestions is a good springboard for exploring alternative approaches and identifying what works best for you and your baby.

7 Tips When Looking for a Sitter

by Dominique de Bourgknecht on Jun 20 2018
Choosing a sitter can be quite a daunting and nerve-wracking task – in reality, you are hiring a stranger to take care of your baby. So when it comes to hiring a sitter for your child, you should be picky. That’s why you need to take a little more extra time and care when finding the right person. To ensure you find the best fit for you and your family, check out these seven tactics. Use Personal Recommendations The best place to start is by asking friends, family, and coworkers which sitters they’ve used and would recommend. This should at least give you a couple of names to work with. But you shouldn’t feel pressured to hire someone just because your best friend recommended them, that doesn’t mean they will be right for your family. Check Sitter Agencies You should also consider doing a little online work to scope out a few other potentials using a sitter website like sittercity.com., care.com or local facebook babysitting groups. You can easily browse through the online profiles and find a sitter that meets the specific requirements you have. Many agencies also do background checks and provide information on their relative experience, which can help you save time on the scouting process. Ask For References When it comes to your child’s safety due diligence is crucial. We recommend asking for a list of references and giving each a call. And don’t feel bad about asking lots of questions - the more you know about the potential candidate, the better. Any parent you are calling will understand that. Look For Qualifications You wouldn’t hire an inexperienced daycare provider to take care of your child so why would you hire an under-qualified babysitter? Certifications like First Aid training and experience working with children in the past can demonstrate that they take their job seriously and are prepared for anything that might arise. While every babysitter, of course, needs to land their first gig at some point, it’s up to you whether or not you choose to hire someone inexperienced. Watch How They Interact The interview is the only time you get to analyze the sitter in person. So try not to spend the entire session asking questions. Allow the sitter to interact directly with your child during this time. This will give you the time you need to see if you like the way they talk, play, and respond to your little one before you hire them. Try Them Out A test run can really weed out the bad sitters from the good ones. Give each potential candidate a short babysitting session. Call them over to take care of your child for a few hours and then come back earlier. If you come home early and see a scene that you shouldn’t see (like the sitter playing on their phone absentmindedly), they probably aren't serious about the job. Show up unannounced This is a great way to see what is really going on, particularly if you have a baby who cannot tell you what is happening while you are away. Definitely stop by the playground or home when you know your child is there to see how your sitter is interacting with your baby. Trust your instincts We all have instincts that we sometimes ignore in favour of more rational arguments. When it comes to the most precious people in your life, go with your gut. Even if a sitter has a perfect resume and references, if something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.

5 Fun Activities for You and Your Toddler

by Dominique de Bourgknecht on May 15 2018
Toddlers are bundles of joy and bundles of energy. They love to run around and explore everything and anything. That’s why finding ways to channel their energy into something specific and productive is important in aiding their development – energy-burning fun and imaginative games can really help. Here are five fun activities for you and your toddler to play that’ll allow you to embrace all of that energy. Bowling When you need an activity that will help tire out your toddler’s never-ending stamina, one activity that’ll do the trick is bowling. Not only does it provide hours of continuous fun, but it also helps to develop your toddler’s motor and coordination skills. Best of all, it costs next to nothing to set up. You can quickly pick up a plastic toy set from your local department store or use a couple of water bottles and a small ball instead. Whatever you use – make sure you supervise! Bubble Wrap Fun Have any bubble-wrap to spare? Kids love hearing the pops and cracks of the bubble wrap and can play with it for hours. All you need to do is place it down on the floor and let them go to town while you supervise. But don’t forget to give it a try yourself! It’s a healthy way to release some tension while having a laugh with your little one. Finger Painting Let’s face it - all kids love making a mess. And when you have a toddler, most of your time is spent cleaning up after them. So why not find an activity where you can embrace the mess? That’s where finger painting comes into play. For about ten dollars you can pick up some large sheets of easel paper and non-toxic paints. You can set them up outside on the grass with some garbage to catch any drips. The Hokey Pokey Toddlers love following your lead. And during this crucial development period, simple games are the most comfortable way for them to learn. Playing the Hokey Pokey is an excellent way to teach them how to follow directions while having some fun at the same time. Freeze Here’s one activity that will have everyone laughing. Freeze is a simple game that toddlers just can’t get enough of and parents find as equally entertaining. To play, all you need to do is turn up your child’s favourite music and dance until the music stops. Once it ends you’ll have to freeze in position. The first one to break their pose loses. Toddlers love this game - especially when parents join in on the fun. Parents know that toddlers have plenty of energy to burn off, which is why having a variety of activities on hand is essential. You can keep them entertained and distracted with any of these fun activities that you and your toddler will love!

4 Reasons Why Baby isn’t Falling Asleep Quickly

by Dominique de Bourgknecht on Apr 12 2018
Having a hard time getting your baby to fall asleep? This is a common frustration among many new parents, so take comfort in knowing that you're not alone. It can take some time to figure out your baby's sleeping patterns and personal quirks, but there may also be other factors contributing to the issue. Here we've pulled together the most common reasons why your baby isn’t falling asleep quickly, as well as some helpful tips to help improve their sleep cycle. Getting in Sync With Natural Sleep Patterns Your child has to be in sync with their natural sleep rhythms to get their best night’s rest. The main issue here is that newborns have cycles that are shorter than 24 hours long as their internal clocks are not fully formed yet. So, if they need to nap, it’s best to let them get the rest they need right away until you can help them develop a more structured sleep schedule. Of course, there’s not much you can do in the meantime, as this is something that happens over time! Too Noisy It can be difficult for your baby to fall asleep if they can hear all the fun and commotion going on around the house – just like an adult! You can try using white noise to help reduce the ambient sounds or just be sure to make an extra effort to keep the volume down to help them get to sleep more easily. Even when you think you’re being quiet, you’d be surprised at what they may be hearing. No Established Ritual A bedtime routine can help calm your baby down and prepare them for sleep. Try dimming the lights, putting on some calming music, and gently massaging or rocking your baby, for example. Once your baby is about two months old, you can start to establish a more predictable bedtime routine. This will teach your baby to go to sleep at the same time each night, as they will begin to recognize and associate the routine with sleeping. They're Uncomfortable Your baby needs to feel comfortable to have their best sleep. Most babies prefer a snug environment to fall asleep. One way to help your baby feel more secure is to dress them safely with a baby sleeping bag. These are like a wearable blanket that allows them to feel snug but with more freedom to move. These type of sleeping garments are also 100% safe, as they are secured to the baby and don’t allow for extra fabric to be of concern. We have a large supply of these here at baby deedee which we know your baby will love. If you've been wondering why your baby isn't falling asleep quickly, it could be any one of these factors. Try to alter your patterns and routines. And when you need the best in light-weight and comfortable baby sleepwear to make them snug and safe for bedtime, check out the variety of items from baby deedee.

How Often Should You Change a Baby’s Bedding?

by Dominique de Bourgknecht on Jan 29 2018
Keeping up with laundry is quite the chore as a new parent with spit-ups and everything in between to deal with. But protecting your baby from germs is important, especially since they frequently put their hands in their mouth. This is why every surface that your baby touches should be clean, including their bedding. If you’re unsure of how often you should be changing your baby’s bedding, here’s what you need to know. Toddler Sheets Your baby or toddler has direct contact with her bedding several times a day, so this is an item that must be kept clean from body oils, residue, and any bacteria.  In many cases, for convenience, we may put our baby down in the clothing that she were wearing outside. Always make it a point to change your child’s bedding sheets 1 to 2 times per week. For any spills or upsets, always clean immediately. Mattress Pad The mattress pad can also harness bacteria and germs, so include it in with the bedding sheets and wash at least once or twice a week. Bumper Pads If you use bumper pads in your baby’s crib, take note that, according to the Safe Sleep Guidelines by the American Academy of Pediatrics, any loose bedding including bumper pads, are no longer advised to use for risks associated with Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). What detergent should you use? Some children are sensitive to the allergens in regular detergents. For this reason many parents choose to wash their baby items with more gentle hypoallergenic detergents. Other Items To Take Note Of Whether it’s your baby’s bedding or any other item that they’re frequently in contact with, always be mindful and wash what’s frequently used at least once per week. Also, aside from the actual bedding, keep in mind that allergens and dust mites can linger directly along the crib and other surfaces too, so don’t forget to give them a good cleaning frequently. Allergens, dust mites and bacteria thrive off of anything that your baby might be leaving behind on their bedding. So without frequent washing, it could create an unhygienic environment for your little one. When in doubt, always stay cautious by throwing in a load of laundry more frequently than not, to be safe. And when you need new bedding or any other sleep gear for your little one, baby deedee has everything you need to keep your baby comfy, clean and safe.

How Screen Time Affects Sleep Quality

by Bold Support on Jul 24 2017
In this day and age, it’s hard not to take advantage of the many benefits of technology. When it comes to settling the kids or keeping them busy so that you can relax and enjoy a peaceful moment to yourself, those devices that grab their attention in an instant seem like a blessing. But too much screen time is not without drawbacks, especially as we begin to rely on it more excessively. In fact, sleep specialists are starting to see a noticeable connection between increased screen time – whether it’s the computer, iPad, smartphone, or TV – and poor quality of sleep. To learn more about how screen time affects sleep quality for your children, read on. Excessive Use of Electronics Ask any parent these days and they’ll tell you that some form of electronic device is an important part of their parenting arsenal. These devices have become so helpful in calming the kids and keeping them distracted that they’ve become almost too much of a crutch. The use of technology and screen time has become so widespread that studies are showing how this increased exposure to screens is impacting the quality of sleep for both adults and children. Studies have shown in particular that excessive screen time leads to shortened sleep duration and a delay in the timing of sleep.  With the almost addictive nature of electronic use, it’s cutting into the duration available to get that full amount of rest we all need. Bright Lights Stimulate Brain & Disrupt Circadian Rhythm In addition, there are more severe impacts than merely cutting into bedtime. The constant long exposure to bright light emitted from the screen suppresses the release of melatonin, which is largely responsible for maintaining our circadian sleep rhythm. This in combination with the content being viewed stimulates the brain enough to release adrenaline. Once this hormone is activated, it makes it hard to get to sleep. If you keep electronic devices in your child’s bedroom, these can also disrupt sleep. It’s not unusual for an iPad screen to turn on with no prompting in the middle of the night, or for a smartphone to buzz with an alert. This interruption can cause your child to wake up and struggle to fall back to sleep. Limit Screen Time to Improve Sleep Understandably, screen time before bed has the biggest noticeable impact on the quality of your children’s sleep. Sleep needs to remain as a priority and establishing healthy habits early is essential. This is why Department of Health guidelines recommend creating limits for children under 13 years of age to two hours of screen time per day and children under 5 with less than one hour per day, avoiding usage at least three hours before bedtime. Also keep screens out of the bedroom to prevent unwanted interruptions or distractions throughout the night. With the widespread use and growing dependence on electronic devices, problems associated with excessive screen time are only bound to get worse. But by creating limitations for your children now, they can hopefully develop better habits that don’t allow technology to take precedence over their wellbeing and quality of sleep.

Fun Summer Snack Ideas for Babies

by Bold Support on Jul 17 2017
Summer is finally here and that means you’ve got plenty of quality family time to spend with the kids. Whether it’s road trips or family outings at the park, you always need to have some snacks on hand to satisfy your little one. And with so many fruits and veggies that are ripe and in season, there are many healthy snacks that you can whip up for your baby in no time. If you’re looking for some ideas, here are a few fun summer snacks for babies that you can try out this season.   PUREES Making a puree out of fresh fruit and veggies is one of the easiest snacks you can make for your baby. And best of all, it takes little time and effort. Kiwi Apple Zucchini Puree In a blender, combined two cored apples, three kiwis (leave the skin on to enjoy triple fiber), and three zucchini. The sweet flavor of the kiwi hides the taste of zucchini, so even the pickiest eater will lap this up. This puree is a great source of vitamin C, vitamin B-6, and dietary fiber. Recipe Source: Simply Whisked Blueberry Apple Spinach Puree Combine two chopped apples, one cup of organic blueberries, and ¼ cup of water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for at least ten minutes to soften the fruit and meld the flavors. Remove from heat, add a handful of fresh spinach, and blend until smooth. The extra healthy twist on apple sauce is a great source of vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, magnesium, and antioxidants. Recipe Source: Baby Foodie Soft Banana Toast This recipe is perfect as a snack or breakfast that’s a soft finger food and will get them into trying slightly different textures. Keep in mind that this snack is meant to be very soft, so don’t expect it to be firm like actual toast. What you need: 1 piece of bread, sliced into “fingers” 1 ripe banana 60 ml of milk Dash of cinnamon What to do: Mash or blend banana, milk and cinnamon in a bowl until smooth. Then heat a pan over medium heat. Dip the bread into the banana mixture and fry for 1-2 minutes until golden brown on each side. Let them cool before serving. Recipe Source: One Handed Cooks   PUREE POPCICLES Nothing captures summer quite like a cool, refreshing popsicle. You can get really creative with different flavors and ingredients to satiate your teething baby. Carrot Mango & Raspberry Pops You’ll need two cooked carrots, the flesh of one ripe mango, and a handful of raspberries. You can adjust the amounts depending on taste preference. The carrots work well to balance out the sweet tartness of the fruit. Just blend together, pour into your popsicle tray and freeze. Recipe Source: Miedema Produce Watermelon Pops Watermelon is one of the best snacks to serve to your infant in the summer time. And beyond slicing it, you can throw some in a blender and freeze as well to have some cool pops to serve on those hot and humid summer days. The summer months are perfect for taking advantage of those fresh flavors while keeping your baby happy and cool. If you’re looing for ideas, try out these easy summer snacks that your baby will love during the summer time.

Baby’s First Foods

by Bold Support on May 29 2017
Being a first-time mom can be challenging, especially when it comes to figuring out what to feed your baby and when to start them on solids. There are many signs to look for to indicate if your baby is ready to eat, and there are lots of great food options that are safe and nutritious for them. That’s why we’ve put together this quick information sheet to help you out with starting your baby on the right foods first. When to first introduce solids Experts believe that the best time to introduce your baby to solid foods is in the first four to six months. The timing will depend on a few different factors with their overall development, including if your baby has the coordination to chew and swallow, if they’ve mastered tongue movement, and can hold their head up on their own. Another tell-tale sign is if they have started to show interest in your foods and have reached out to try and grab items during your meals. The best starter foods You will want to start with mashed and soft foods. Small amounts of mashed cooked meats, beans, tender cooked vegetables, cut up bananas, grated cheeses, cooked egg, mushy cereal, and soft deboned fish are excellent starter foods. The goal is to introduce iron-rich foods into their diet that are easy for them to self-feed. Also, don’t be afraid to introduce flavorful foods into their diet, it will help them to accept different types of foods further down the road. The foods to avoid Avoid any foods that are hard, long, and sticky. Things like peanut butter, honey, popcorn, whole nuts, long uncooked vegetables, and full-sized hot dogs are bad to start with. These foods can become an easy choking hazard. Introduce allergenic foods Contrary to what you believe, introducing peanuts and other typical allergenic foods may help to prevent a risk of developing these allergies further on. Of course, if you notice any hives, breathing issues, or rashes, make sure to take your baby to the hospital right away. Gagging is normal Gagging is actually a natural reflex for your baby. It teaches them how to move food around in their mouth and how to not choke on the food. Begin a daily schedule Start scheduling feeding times at the same time every day for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks. This will help your baby learn to eat at specific times of the day, which will be easier for you as they age.   It’s going to be messy It will take time for your baby to master eating so it’s going to be pretty messy for the first while. Plus, they will make all kinds of funny faces as they experience new tastes and textures. This is all completely normal and is all part of the parenting fun. Parenthood can be scary at times, but it’s also exciting - especially when it comes to feeding your baby for the first few times. And starting them on solids may take a little time to master but it will ensure proper development for your baby. Follow these tips and you will be able to start off on the right foot!
